Péter Eötvös (1946–2024) led a multifaceted career as a composer, conductor, and teacher. His music, performed worldwide, includes—in addition to some 90 major instrumental and vocal works—fourteen operas. From his earliest pieces and the film scores of his youth, the theatrical, dramatic, and visual character of his works has predominated, even in his instrumental catalogue. His output in the field of musical and operatic theatre, and the questions it raises, were the subject of a symposium held in honor of his 80th birthday on January 12 and 13, 2024, at IRCAM (Paris). This book is the published proceedings. It brings together many specialists in his music, and is structured in two parts: “From one scene (or opera) to another”, “From one dramaturgy to another”.
